The device’s fragility is indeed one of the principal problems of our dear (in the literal sense of the term) touch screen phones. Apple is obviously aware of this, and the brand is constantly coming up with new ideas to solve this problem.

Even though in recent years Apple has proven to be less imaginative than it was during the great ‘Steve Jobs’ era, the American company nevertheless remains capable of surprising everybody with unexpected innovations. This was true recently with its virtual reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, which caught everyone unawares…

The iPhone of the future will be scratch-proof…

… And it is also the case with prototype blueprints which have been leaked (or might it have been deliberate?), on which are depicted what shape and form the next iPhones will take. Or, to be more precise, from what they will be manufactured.

In analysing the revealed documents, it has thereby been discovered that Apple has registered a patent for a revolutionary material termed ‘Spatial Composites.’ This will in fact consist of several very robust components combined, such as metal and ceramic.

This very special ‘alloy’ will also be reinforced by the existing gap between its constituent components. This gap will vary between 10 and 100 microns depending on the materials.

The result is an external surface which is a lot more resistant to scratches and impacts, making the iPhone practically incapable of suffering any damage. A blessing for the buyers, who will no longer be obliged to purchase a protective casing…

…or capable of reflex actions to avoid damage

Apple is also exploring another even more surprising technology to protect the screens of its iPhones from impact damage. Hold on to your hats, we are approaching a realm bordering on science fiction…

The Apple company’s engineers are in effect working on an innovative system termed ‘active screen protection’. This system is based on motorised tabs situated on the four corners of the screen. Yes, yes, you have read that right, like little jointed arms. When the phone’s sensors, such as the microphone and the camera, detect that a fall is taking place, these protective tabs are instantly deployed to prevent the screen from coming into direct contact with the impact surface, and thus significantly reduce the probability of damage to the phone. As a concept it’s pretty futuristic, no?

And yet, this technology had already been envisaged by Apple in a patent registered in 2014.
