Bill Viola (finally) in Belgium<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

From October 2023, the Mus\u00e9e de la Boverie in Li\u00e8ge will be hosting the Belgian exhibition \u2013 with international scope \u2013 dedicated to the American innovator Bill Viola. We can\u2019t wait! A renowned artist in the field of contemporary art, Bill Viola is considered one of the founders of video art. This exhibition is the outcome of a collaboration between Tempora<\/a>, the Bill Viola Studio<\/a> and La Boverie<\/a>. The themes addressed by the artist, namely birth, life and death, concern us all. These works, some of which are on a huge scale, are inspiring. In terms of technique, Bill Viola combines various video recording devices and has experimented widely to broaden his vision. His installations are immersive. The addition of complex visual and sound effects steeps visitors in emotional and introspective experiences. One thing is certain: he will not leave you cold\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Our bodies are works of art\u2019<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

So argues Allison Tunis, a Canadian artist and art therapist. She juggles watercolour, collage, acrylic painting and embroidery to offer visibility to under-represented and\/or misrepresented people. Opening up to difference is the guiding thread of her work. In her compositions, marginalised bodies are empowered through their own portraits, captured by her companion, Jesse. The pair work in concert to challenge society. Allison, who used to dread being on display for fear of rejection, proudly exhibits herself to her partner\u2019s lens. Her approach \u2013 considered avant-garde only a few years ago \u2013 is today deeply embedded in a societal problem that is important to address. Despite being the target of fatphobic comments, the artist is doubling down on her innovative take on the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
